Radiant Roots is a foundation committed to visibility, knowledge-sharing, and empowerment of people - in particular women of color. Founded in 2024 by Alexandra Heckman and Marian Spier, the foundation strengthens the representation of Black beauty, culture, and heritage through art, media, and education.
Radiant Roots was created in response to the structural underrepresentation and stereotyping present in Dutch society. Despite growing attention to diversity, the stories and perspectives of women of color often remain invisible. Through authentic projects and visible role models, the foundation promotes awareness, representation, and a more inclusive collective heritage.
This is us
Radiant Roots was born from a desire to give voice to the unique stories and traditions of people, and in particular women of color. One sunny afternoon, we realised that so many beauty traditions deeply rooted in cultural heritage don’t receive the recognition they deserve. We’re here to make those stories visible and to celebrate them.
Beauty is more than just appearance—it’s deeply intertwined with who we are and where we come from. Radiant Roots is a space where women of color can embrace their beauty and cultural roots. It’s a community where you’ll find inspiration, tips, and connections with others who share your experiences.

We want to help build a world where diversity in beauty is celebrated and represented.

Radiant Roots’ mission is to explore the world of Black beauty—from its historical roots and rich cultural traditions to the modern developments shaping beauty ideals today. We focus on promoting inclusivity and diversity, with a special emphasis on mental resilience and empowerment, ensuring that every woman of color feels seen, heard, and strengthened in her unique beauty and identity.
